Lurkus Spleens Birthday bash

The Battle of Waterloo, a giant game of Black Powder.

It was a friend of mines Birthday this Saturday so he invited me down to join in on a massive game of Black Powder. To be honest I've never played it or read the rules, I've always thought of historical wargaming as something beardy old men do. It's not like "real" wargame with dragons and trolls and space rangers etc haha but that didn't stop me from joining in with the fun.
So we turned up at Iron Acton at 09:00hrs and began our battle prep of eating crisps and chocolate. Battle commenced at roughly 10:00hrs when the French line advanced. I had command of Lt General Uxbridge and four Divisions of Calvary which I planned to charge gallantly into the French Peasants giving them the sharp end of some cold Sheffield steel. Unfortunately for me I had no idea that British Cavalry are totally useless in this game (I just presumed cavalry would be good), in fact it's impossible to charge infantry as they always form up into a square, against the French Cavalry they didn't fair too well either. I lost the left flank within two turns, a whole division collapsed after sustaining several casualties which made them break and were ran down by the French heavy horse.
Although the game didn't go to plan it was nice just to be involved in a huge game like this, role some dice and have a good old laugh with some friends. Oh and eat cake.

Fair play to everyone involved the planning that went into getting so many troops set up and allowing us to finish the game in under 10 hours was great.

Unfortunately the French won in the end.

Have a look at some of the photos from this massive game...
